Paphos Area: With a wonderful all year around climate Paphos is very popular with visitors from many European countries including the UK, Germany and Scandinavia, particularly for people looking for a well structured by relaxed holiday environment. Paphos mixes the old and the new in a very cosmopolitan way and is one of the most established holiday locations in Cyprus and among its obvious attractions of weather, scenery, seafood and local culture are its fabulous mosaic floors, historical sites, the old harbour and its famous and well photographed Byzantine castle. The water front is extensive with a wonderful array of outdoor dining and views across the harbour and bay. This promenade extends toward the harbour where another range of restaurants awaits you with seafood specialties and local delicacies.
Other attractions include an archaeological museum, St.Paula’s Pillar, the Temple of Aphrodite the Tombs of the Kings. From ancient to modern, Paphos breaches the time divide and also offers excellent shopping on the beach promenade and the old town area of Kato Paphos, where there is also a wonderful old covered market area. Add to this a wonderful choice of modern or traditional restaurants, the water parks, Go carting, Golf, Luxury Spas there is something for all ages to enjoy.
As you would expect there are numerous beaches within easy access and with the all year around sunshine and local attractions, Paphos provides for a great choice of family holiday. The summer months are a popular time for tourism in Paphos, where temperatures reach the mid 30s every day. The cooler winter months however attract keen walkers, mountain bikers and skiers who frequent the Troodos Mountains and Akamas National Park and peninsular areas.
Coral Bay is one of the best known locations in the Paphos region with its sandy beaches and is just a few minutes’ drive from Peyia, which has views over this part of the coastline. Coral Bay has its own commercial microstructure and offers visitors an alternative selection of restaurants and shops with European tastes such as Italian, Chinese, Cypriot and Indian cuisine. Several of the larger hotels in Coral Bay have very good health spas and restaurants as well.
Walking and Climbing in the Akamas Peninsular Peyia is on the edge of the Akamas Peninsular a National Park and area of outstanding natural beauty. This park is an obvious place to enjoy the scenery and is frequented by walkers and climbers. If you are a keen walker, climber or mountain biker you may also enjoy guided tours by mountain bike (which may be hired) in the Troodos mountain area as well.
Peyia Area: Peyia has become increasingly popular and is a charming village situated on a gently sloping hillside overlooking Coral Bay.
Traditional is the word to describe this village in both look and feel. Small winding streets, stone houses and an old village church with shops lie at the centre of Peyia. The village also offers visitors a good selection of facilities and services including banks, doctors, two supermarkets, fishmongers, bakery, butchers and launderette. It also offers a good selection of Taverna’s where you can try the local fare and hospitality.
Kissonerga & Chlorakas Area: Kissonerga is a small and elegant traditional style village found between the central tourist area of Paphos and lovely Coral Bay. The main street of the village boasts a good selection of grocery shops, convenience stores, a pharmacy and a choice of traditional Taverna’s. Kissonerga is ideally located for visitors who want to experience living in a traditional village but also want to be close to the evening entertainment offered by Paphos and Coral Bay.
Golf: Three golf courses are all within a 35 minute drive the most famous of which is Aphrodite Hills and Secret Valley both are open to the general public. | |
