Paphos Villages

Villages Surrounding Paphos

The Pafos region it a beautiful place with Pafos town itself being surrounded by other fantastic little villages and towns. The villages can help holiday makers to the area plan days or afternoons and time spent here really does encourage people to seek out its interesting history and culture.

Villages here include though are not limited to Kallepia, Koloni, Nata and Anarvargos, please read more about these quaint historic towns below, most of which are easily accessible by car, bus or motorbike and each has opportunities to buy unique hand made pottery and other crafted items as souvenirs. We decided to write about these four stunning villages as they all have their own unique area of interest:

Kallepia

Kallepia is found around 13km (approx ten minutes) from the North Easter part of Pafos. Known for its nostalgia it is a popular tourist attraction and visitors flock here to view the interesting stone built architecture with one of the main attractions being the fascinating Ayios Georgios church which itself is a beautiful part of the regions heritage. Regular exhibitions are held in Kallepia and it can make for a lovely afternoon meandering around the vineyards at the church or the famous marble rock formations at the Monastery.

Koloni

Placed very close to Pafos, Koloni is only 5km or a few minutes drive from the Eastern side of the town and is close to a larger village where residents and visitors go to for larger supermarkets and refreshments. The fact that Koloni is close to beaches means that it is a popular place for visitors, but despite the many people that are attracted to the village and its beaches it still remains peaceful and is a lovely place to enjoy a relaxing day.

Nata

Nata is situated around 14km from central Pafos.and though it’s a very quiet little village it is located close to the airport, therefore easy to get to. The village makes for a lovely day trip and plenty of Europeans from outside Cyprus have become resident here, perhaps been attracted to its convenient location and its beauty. For those that are interested in the Aphrodite mythology, she is said to have fallen in love with Adonis within the village of Nata so is a must see to those that want to experience the area.

Anavargos

Anavargos is located approximately 20km from Pafos, the farthest of the four mentioned in this article. Its beauty is that it is situated very closely to the Akamas region, a conservation area, so is well placed for visitors wishing to see the region with the famous Turtle Beach (Lara Bay). The village itself is fairly large so there are plenty of places to buy food, drink and souvenirs as well as having the best opportunity to try a genuine traditional Meze.

Villages surrounding and in the Pafos region truly do help holiday makers to enjoy the delights and the beauty of the area and hiring a car is the best way to get around, though remembering that the Akamas region is a national park, a natural wilderness, so it is usually suggested that a 4x4 is rented for anyone planning to visit that particular stretch of land.
